European perspectives on Canadian Women's Writing

Conference organized by the Centre for Canadian Studies of Strasbourg University (France) and the Centre for Canadian Studies of Marburg University (Germany)

This two-day conference to be held the 28/9th of October in Strasbourg will bring together European scholars who are interested in Canadian women's writing from, a (non-exclusive and non-exclusionary) variety of perspectives. These perspectives could be grounded in feminist or post-colonial theory, historical, deconstructionist or genre based critique, inter-culturalist poetics or epistemological investigation to name but a few possibilities.

The object of the conference will be to examine the ways in which Canadian women's writing “over there” is read by scholars “over here”.  Through the way particular tropes, themes and lines of inquiry are investigated the conference will not only add to the existing fund of knowledge of writings by Canadian women, but also reveal how the Canadian imaginary is interpreted, and thus re-imagined from outside its national and cultural borders.

The proceedings of the conference will be published jointly by the two Canadian Studies centres.
